From Diane Setterfield's The Thirteenth Tale

People disappear when they die. Their voices, their laughter, the warmth of their breath. Their flesh. Eventually their bones. All living mempry of them ceases. This is both dreadful and natural. Yet for some there is an exception to this annihilation. For in the books they write they continut to exist. We can rediscover them. Their humour, their tone of voice, their moods. Through the written word they can anger you or make you happy. They can comfort you. They can perplex you. They can alter you. All this, even though they are dead. Like flies in amber, like corpses frozen in ice, that which according to the laws of nature should pass away is, by the miracle of ink on paper, preserved. It is a kind of magic.

does that say something to you?!

I'm thinking:

ironic that the place we go to heal physical maladies is so dangerous to go to if you are healthy...

Aidan ALWAYS gets sick... so perhaps it's not really the hospitals fault that it's bed was RIGHT THERE where a kid can eat it...

American treatment facilities are not as 'sanitary' as we'd all like to believe...

HE is SOOO CUTE!!!

This is a test post from flickr, a fancy photo sharing thing.

SO I have a flickr page... and I am figuring out how to use the blogger/ flicker relationship to my own devious purpose.

but so far, I can only upload one picture at a time...

Yesterday I finished playing wih my pictures on the computer and shut down. But Scott wanted to see what I had done...oops.

So i pushed the power button toturn my computer back on. Nothing. I was not too worried because I was not even sure it had finished shutting down. I waited a bit and tried again. Nothing. So I tried three time in quick succession. NothingNothingNothing.

I said to Scott, is ther a cool down time on my computer before I can turn it back on?

No, why?

It won't turn on...

Scott lept from his game and started 'looking into the problem' within minutes my computer was in pieces all over the floor. I was too tired to think of taking more pictures... but he had taken the motor out and off the motherboard and had opened the fan... there were screws and all sorts of wires and what not all over.

The diagnosis was grim. I need a new power supply. (well maybe not so grim after all, but you should have seen the look on his face!)

Tomorrow He'll go to Fry's and pick one up.

I was grateful that i had not completely ruined my computer and went to bed.

In the morning Scott had piled up the computer parts in to a little stack.

I went to work.

When Scott picked me up for lunch, he had started on a big project that I have in mind for this weekend AND my computer was up and running. He had not gone to Fry's and bought a new power supply. Instead he had gone shopping in our closet. We have a upright legal size file cabinet that is filled with computer parts. Usually I moan about all the wasted space and useless junk. Well I'm not complaining today!

Thank you Scott!

Babies, babies, everywhere part II

So everyone I know is pregnant. Or they JUST had a baby. And they are all girls.

Well Alison and Jen are having boys... but that's two boys out of *counting really hard* seven that I can count off the top of my head. So there are lotsa girlies out there.

And they all are wiggelers. I am hearing stories of babies kicking and squirming and punching more than normal, and in one instance breaking mom's ribs from moving so much.

And Crystal's grossly accurate and graphic description of an epidural... shudder... well right now I am glad that I don't have to worry about miscarrying, high risk-ness, twins, eight kiddos in the house, not being able to lay down, peeing all the time, hunger and no room in your abdomen for your stomach to hold food, EPIDURALS!!!, getting fat, breast feeding for the first time, not sleeping for 9 months, and rearranging our home to fit all the baby stuff. Plus what ever else I am forgetting that is yucky about being with child.

Now I understand that not everyone has complicated and or hard pregnancies and that the result is way worth the bleh, but I don't have to deal with that right now. And I am glad.

However, I miss my boys!!! My little ready-made family.

When we were in Colorado for the funeral I met Scott's other sister for the first time. She has adopted 3.5 of their 4.5 kids (The .5 is a foster daughter that they are trying to adopt). Bingo! Ready made family... to order.

I've talked with some people about fostering and adopting and it sounds like fun.

well, no... not really.

But an adventure!

To foster, here, I need 8 sq feet to dedicate to the child and a 6 week parenting class. That's it.
It sounds super easy. And foster parents are always in demand. I could even foster pregnant teens... who were disowned(?)... Cool, huh? I wouldn't do that right now... I'd have no 'mother authority' since I'm just recently an adult myself. maybe when I'm 30-ish.

However, that gets to wait until I am not a corporate working fiend.

I wonder if fostering and then adopting is cheaper than just adopting... either way I feel called to adopt. I have since we got married and started planning for our lives. But I think one is sufficient, I'll leave the 5-1000 kids to Bethany. :)

people

I've only been working on a computer for a little bit, but already my typing is so much better. If I slow down a bit and think, I can type sorta accurately without looking at the keys!!

Scott invited some people from our ward over for dinner tonight. They had already eaten, bu they came to hang out for a bit. It was fun to sit and chat.

I have never seen either one of them before... ever.

Our ward is transient, and I don't at all profess to know everyone, but Scott chats with these people all the time and they gave us concert tickets and we are cool with them. I was very surprised to realize that we are friends with a couple that I had never seen before... not just have not met, but I have never seen them.

crazy!

On a completely different note, I really love to eat corn. It is just so yummy.

I got a promotion last week and I was SO stressed over it.

The Saturday after coming home from Hawaii I was so distraught that I threw up a lovely dinner of Vietnamese soup. And as I have told my wonderfully concerned friends, I am not pregnant! I totally just get the symptoms when I am stressed... for reals!

Here is what is going on:
So much time with family
James leaving
the boys gone
the house is a mess
companies fighting over me... literally they were jus this side of 'pulling out the big guns' (I know it's a compliment, but I was in the middle and I was stressed over it)
the new responsibilities are overwhelming me (on Tuesday I get to be the personal assistant to a VERY important guy, who is used to having him every whim catered to...even the whims he does not know he has, it's intense!)
so much LAUNDRY!!!
still mourning Megan's death
scanning family photo albums for the Quigley family.... and it's a LOT of pictures.
scrap booking some of those pictures
going through everything and sorting out James' stuff and shipping some of it to him
deciding what to do with the rest of it
keeping myself busy and active, physically, so i don't have another stress meltdown
remembering to make time in all of this for Scott

phew!

But my visiting teachers and visiting teachee are great and they have been helping me through a lot of this. THANK YOU LADIES!
and James gave me great advise, I can work for 4-5 years and climb that corporate ladder and get as far as I can go, and have fun and enjoy it; and then jump into becoming a mom and enjoy that. OR I could wish that I was a mom while I have to be working and therefore not enjoy the time spent and then when I do become a mom, wish I was working and resent my kids for keeping me at home. It's my choice.

It was so novel. So I have decided to really enjoy my career life.

so there!

ha!

Pictures from Hawai'i

Aloha! We were in Oahu, Hawai'i for Christmas and New Years.

Here is the view from the airplane. Beautiful!
And then in no order what-so-ever...

I took a nap o n our private patio and woke up to this! The state flower, Plumeria, which does smell so good.
The return of the Spearfishers... and Cece.
This was great. Scott and Cece spent several occasions doing projects like this.
We got me a big Black Pearl ring. This is a funky photo for insurance... but I think it complements my wedding ring nicely. you?

Our bathroom that everyone else used. Ah, the joys of a first floor room.
Uncle Scott and the bones of the Uhu that he caught.
Grandpa was enthralled by these white hibiscus.
Tarah and Klye buried Nicky at Lagoon 2

This is me SURFING! On the first day ever... I got up on the board and here is the proof!
Probably the most fun thing we did.

I don't know why but every time I saw this black swan, at the entrance to the resort the Co Olina resort we stayed, at she seemed to symbolize our residence.
I have other, direct pictures pictures of the Temple but we like this one. The beach is hard to see, but it's right in front of the car, just beyond the palm trees.
Here I model Aunt Mariana's wet suit. Mom and the girls and I got matching suits... and we all got the same size which is interesting if you have ever seen us together. I'll have to dig up that picture.
"What happens in Hawaii... stays with you forever"
I have never seen a fast food trash receptacle with anything other than "Thank You" or "Trash"... until you go to Subway in Kunia.
Lagoon 1 at Co Olina. Taken the first day we arrived. It's beautiful!!
shake, shake, shake, shake your body! Traditional Tahiti dancers at the Polynesian Cultural Center.
Our friends told us not to skip eating at Giovanni's and the advise was SO great. Probably the best food I ate the whole trip was at the side of the H1.
This is me... SURFING! On the first day. I promptly fell after the picture was taken, but a few hours later I was able to balance kneeling on the top of my board, surf a wave that way ALLL the way to the shore and sit down (not fall of and scramble back on) and paddle back out for another wave.

So AWESOME! It's my favorite memory.
Grandma, doing her thing.
Hanaunma Bay. We tried snorkeling here, but it was so crowded, and stormy that we could hardly see 3 feet out.
Lagoon 1, again on the first day. ME!
At the Dole Pineapple Plantation. Kyle, Scott and I ran the maze and TOTALLY beat everyone else!
Lagoon 1, Scott posing on the rocks. Those rocks were surprisingly rough, I still have holes in the soles of my feet from them.
Scott killed two flies in the kitchen... as they were flying around. I'm impressed.
You can't tell so much, but these are all cubes of fat. We ordered a beef stew and this is what we got. :(
THEN, as we got ice cream one store over there was a shooting right outside. The casing ended up in front of the car next to ours. Officer Ramerez was kind enough to let us leave, even though we were part of the crime scene. I like him. It was LATE and we were flying out the next day.
Scott and Scott showing their catch. They went night- spear fishing and we got some yummy fish. I forget which kinds.
Eating at Giovanni's
*taken from a moving vehicle* The mountains were majestic and green, and usually covered in clouds, as seen here.
My cousins on my Mom's side. Cece (Laura) Latimer, Kyle Latimer, Nicky Latimer.
